MiniDV Tape $10 Each (Holds up to one hour of transferred film) We use only Panasonic Professional Tape (not Consumer MiniDV Tape) MiniDV tape is a commonly available digital tape format that holds 2.5x more information than DVDs and is less susceptible to damage over the long term. The MiniDV Tape would be your digital master -- best for archiving, as a backup, and if you plan to edit on a computer. MiniDV tapes are played through a MiniDV camcorder into a computer (through a firewire cable). When playing a MiniDV tape into a computer using a firewire cable there is zero loss in video quality. Your editing program will make the imported video from the MiniDV tape into either .mov format used mostly by Macs or .avi format for PCs. For Windows XP and Vista users there is a program called "Windows Movie Maker". It does basic editing and is easy to use and is included free on all Windows XP and Vista computers. Mac Users can use iMovie or Final Cut for editing. A MiniDV camcorder may also be connected directly to a television with video inputs. We use Panasonic, Professional MiniDV tapes. MiniDV tapes allow for exact frame by frame editing on a computer or professional video tape editor. DVDs use MPEG recording that makes frame by frame editing difficult or impossible depending on your software. MPEG-2 editing also looses quality with each editing generation - just like analog tape. MiniDV tapes are 720x480 native resolution, exactly the same resolution as a standard 25Mb/s .mov or .avi file on a hard drive. MiniDV Digital Master Tapes keep your options open! - A stable back up if you DVDs or Hard Drive become damaged or lost. - Allows for future editing of your film transfer on any PC or Mac. -Will convert to future standards like HDTV with better quality than DVD. - We can make new DVDs if you have the MiniDV master tape for only $10. . |
